R. S. Bharathi is an Indian politician from the state of Tamil Nadu. He was born on August 15, 1947 (age 74 years), in Alandur, Chennai, India. He is a Member of the Rajya Sabha since 2016. He did his study at Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College (1978), MORE. His father’s name is T.J. Raman and his mother’s name is J. Vijayalakshmi. He married Dr. P.A. Sampurnam.
He is the Organization Secretary of DMK. He was the party's candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls and won it unopposed in 2016. He was the chairman of Alandur municipality from 1986-1991. He was the chairman of the chamber of chairpersons of Municipalities, Tamil Nadu from 1996-2001. He continued to be on chair till 2006. He again became the chairman of Alandur municipality from 1996-2009. In June 2016 R.S. Bharathi was Elected to Rajya Sabha In Aug 2016 he became a member of the parliamentary committee on Urban Development and also a member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence.
