Prasanna Acharya is a famous Indian politician of the Biju Janata Dal, Agriculturist/Farmer, Trader, Social Worker and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), the upper house of the Indian Parliament from the state of Odisha. He was born on 8 August 1949 (age 72 years according to 2021) in Bargarh (Odisha), India. His father’s name is Late Padamshree Dr. Krutartha Acharya and his mother’s name is Late Shrimati Chanchala Acharya. His educational qualification is Bachelor of Arts, LL.B. from Panchayat College, Bargarh and Lajpat Rai Law College, Sambalpur, Odisha. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He is married to Shrimati Charusila Acharya on 9 December 1979 and has two daughters.
Prasanna Acharya started his political career as a candidate of Biju Janata Dal. He was first elected to the Member of Odisha Legislative Assembly for two terms (1990-98 and 2009-2014). In between he was appointed to the Minister of State, Food and Civil Supplies, Government of Odisha, Minister of State of Industries (Textiles & Handloom), Government of Odisha, Cabinet Minister of Excise, Government of Odisha, and Cabinet Minister of Rural Development (Exc. Lift Irrigation & Minor Irrigation), Government of Odisha. In 1998, he was elected to the Twelfth Lok Sabha from Sambalpur constituency of Odisha and re-elected to the Thirteenth Lok Sabha (second term) and Fourteenth Lok Sabha (third term) from the same constituency. in 2016, he was elected to Rajya sabha for the state of Odisha. Acharya also held the post of the Minister of Finance in Odisha.
