Prannoy Roy born in Calcutta, West Bengal, India age 68 years on 15th October 1949. By profession, Roy is Media presenter, Psephologist and Economist. Prannoy with his wife Radhika Roy is the co-founder and executive co-chairperson of NDTV. His father P. L. Roy, he was the Chief Executive of the Indian unit in a British company and his mother was a teacher. He did his schooling from La Martiniere Calcutta, The Doon School, Dehradun.
Roy won a scholarship as a British Chartered Accountant to Haileybury and Imperial Service College, UK, and did his PhD in Economics from Delhi University from Delhi School of Economics. Roy did his honours with First Divison from Queen Mary College, London. Prannoy has won many academic awards such as the Leverhulme Trust Fellowship, one Queen Mary College Prize for results at BSc and an OPOS Scholarship at the Doon School to study at Haileybury College, and Institute of Chartered Accountants, England and Wales in 1979- 83.
He is married to Radhika Roy, the couple has a daughter named Tara Roy together. Arundhati Roy is a cousin of Prannoy. Roy is a famous TV presenter in India, he is also an author. Prannoy is an Economist and also a professional British Chartered Accountant, he has also been lead anchor for election analysis for Doordarshan and also Question Time India, BBC World News. Roy in 1998 launched a television production house called New Delhi Television along with his wife Radhika Roy. He started his career by covering India’s General Elections. He has hosted many shows like “ The News Tonight” and “ The World This Week” on Doordarshan. He then his India’s first 24-hour English News Channel NDTV 24x7.
Also, he worked in the Indian Government’s Ministry of Finance as an Economic Advisor, and also at the Delhi School of Economics as an Associate Professor. Roy has been appointed as the consultant to the India division of international accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. As Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, Roy was appointed as International Advisory board of council in 2009. The books named “ A Compendium of Indian Elections” and “India Decides: Elections 1952-1991” are been co-authored by Prannoy Roy with David Butler.
