Pradeep Tamta is a famous Indian politician of the Indian National Congress, Social Worker, and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), the upper house of the Indian Parliament from the state of Uttarakhand. He was born on 16 June 1958 (age 63 years according to 2021) in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, India. His father’s name is Late Shri Gusain Ram and his mother’s name is Late Shrimati Parvati Devi. His educational qualification is M.A., B.Ed., LL.B. educated at Kumaon University, Nainital, Uttarakhand. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He is married to Shrimati Renu Tamta on 9 December 1993 and has two daughters.
Pradeep Tamta started his political career as a candidate for the Indian National Congress. He was first elected as the Member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from the Someshwar constituency from 2002-2007. In between, he was appointed the Vice-Chairman of Uttarakhand Udyog Parishad for 2003-04. In 2009, he was elected to the Fifteenth Lok Sabha from the Almora constituency. In 2016, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Uttarakhand. Currently, he is serving as a member of the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, a member of the Committee on Water Resources since 2016, a member of the Committee on Official Language since 2018, member of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rae Bareli and member of Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj since 2019. He has also participated with vigour and drive to save the forest movement known as ‘Chipko Andolan’ and the anti-liquor movement known as ‘Nasha Nahi Rojgar Do Andolan’.
