Neena Gupta was born on 4 June 1959 into a Hindu family in Delhi, India. By profession, she is an actress and television director. Her father R.N. Gupta is a businessman and her mother is a housewife. She attended The Lawrence School, Sanawar, Himachal Pradesh, India to complete her basic education. Later, she did a Master’s Degree and an M.Phil. in Sanskrit.
She has appeared in International film Gandhi(1982), The Deceivers(1988), Mirza Ghalib(1989), In Custody(1993), and Cotton Mary(1999). She made her debut in Hindi film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro(1983). Later, she was seen in a popular song Choli Ke Peeche from the movie Khalnayak(1993) along with Madhuri Dixit. She made television movies like Lajwanti and Bazar Sitaram(1993), which won the National Film Award for Best First Non-Feature Film in 1993.
Recently, she was hugely appreciated for her role in Badhaai Ho(2018) and she won many awards. In 2019, she won Best Supporting Actress for the film Badhaai Ho. She was seen in many television shows like Khandaan(1985), Yatra(1986), Gulzar’s Mirza Ghalib(1987), Bharat Ek Khoj(1988), Gumraah(1995), Chitthi(2003), Meri Biwi Ka Jawaab Nahin(2004). She has also directed many successful T.V. series like Saans(1999), Siski(2000), and Kyu Hota Hai Pyaarrr. On 15 July 2008, she married Vivek Mehra, a Chartered Accountant and the couple has one daughter namely Masaba Gupta.
