Nana Patekar a well-known Actor, Filmmaker and Philanthropist was born on 1st January 1951 in Murud-Janjira, Bombay State, India. His parents are father Gajanan Patekar and mother Nirmala Patekar. Nana was born in Marathi family as Vishwanath Patekar. Patekar did his education from J. J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai.
Nana stepped into the world of films with movie Gaman as Vasu in 1978, after this he did his first Marathi movie named Sinhasan, next year again featured in a Marathi movie named Bhalu, and till 1983 he did all Marathi movies, in 1984 he did a hindi movie named Aaj Ki Awaaz as Jagmohandas, in 1985 he again did a Marathi movie, as audiences loved watching him in Marathi movies, he was gaining popularity with each and every passing movie, in 1986 he did 2 Hindi movies named as in Ankush as Ravindra Kelkar and in Lord Mountbatten: The Last Viceroy as Nathuram Godse.
In 1987 Nana got offers of 4 Hindi movies, in Sutradhar as Kumar, in Mohre as Abdul, in Andhaa Yudh as S. P. Suhas Dandekar, in Pratighaat as Ex- Constable Karamveer, from 1988 to 2005 33 movies, some were hit, some were flop, some did amazing business and some underperformed, but Nana came out as the finest actor India has received. In 2006 he did one movie opposite John Abraham in Taxi No. 9211 as Raghav Shastri, Patekar was now getting unconventional roles to play, which he portrayed with such an ease, in 2007, he did 4 movies, in Hattrick as Doctor, in Welcome as Don Uday Shetty, in Yatra as Dasrath Joglekar and in The Pool as Bunglow Owner, in 2009 he did only one movie in Horn ‘OK’ Pleassss as Govinda.
In 2010 Nana did only 3 Hindi movies, in Paathshaala as Principal Aditya Sahay, in Raajneeti as Brij Gopal, in Tum Milo Toh Sahi as Subramanium, in the same year he made his debut in Kannada cinema with movie in Yaksha as Police Officer, for 2011 Nana chose to do only 2 movies, one Hindi movie in Shagird as Hanumant Singh, and one Marathi movie named Deool as Bhau Galande, 2012 was the year Patekar came up with only one movie named Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal as Kallu, for the year 2013 he featured in 3 movies named in The Attacks of 26/11 as Rakesh Maria, in It’s My Life as Businessman, and in Hungame Pe Hungama as Jigar Bhaiya, in 2014 Nana didn’t did any Hindi movie, and did only 2 Marathi movies named as , in Dr. Prakash Baba Amte: The Real Hero as Dr. Prakash Amte, and in Yashwantrao Chavan- Bakhar Eka Vaadalaachi, 2015 was the year of sequels for him, he did Ab Tak Chappan 2 as Inspector Sadhu Agashe, and in Welcome Back as Uday Shetty,
For year 2016, Nana came up with one Marathi movie named Natsamrat as Ganpatrao Ramchandra Belwalkar, one animated movie The Jungle Book, he was the voice of Shere Khan and one Hindi movie named Tadka as Tukaram, Last he was seen in 2 movies, in Wedding Anniversary as Nagarjun and in Golmaal Again he did a guest appearance. Nana has been awarded with many accolades such as Padma Shri in 2013, National Film Award in 1989 and 1994 and many more. Nana has also an organization named as Naam Foundation, to help farmers. Nana Patekar lives a very simple life with his wife Neelakanthi Patekar, children Malhar Patekar and mother Nirmala Patekar.
