He was born on 16 July 1966 (age 55 years according to 2021) in Sholinghur, Distt. Ranipet (Tamil Nadu), India. His father’s name is Shri R.N. Ranganathan and his mother’s name is Shrimati Ranjithan. His educational qualification is B.L. from Government Law College, Trichy. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He is married to Shrimati Aruna Elango on 3 July 1998 and has two children one son and one daughter.

He is one of those candidates who are elected first time in parliament as he was elected to Rajya Sabha from the state of Tamil Nadu in 2020 with which he was made a member of the Committee on Water Resources, member of Committee on Papers Laid on the Table.
