Munisamy Thambidurai is an Indian politician who served as the Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha. He was born on March 15, 1947 (age 74 years), Chinthagampalli. He was a Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha (2014–2019), MORE. He did his study at the University of Madras, Madras Christian College. His father’s name is Shri Munisamy Gounder. He married Banumathi Thambidurai.
Thambidurai was elected to the 8th Lok Sabha for the first time in 1984. He became the Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha and was appointed as the Chairman, Committee on Private Members` Bills, Library Committee, and Resolutions in 1985. From 1990 to 1991 he was appointed as the Member of General Purposes Estimates and Consultative Committees. Also, he was a committee member of Departments of Atomic Energy, Space, Electronics, Ocean Development, and Ministry of Science and Technology. In 1998 for the third time, he was re-elected to the 12th Lok Sabha. Also during the same year, (i.e) from Mar. 1998- Apr. 1999 he became the Union Cabinet Minister of Law, Justice, and Company Affairs. In addition to these charges he also took charge of the Ministry of Surface Transport.
He was re-elected to 15th Lok Sabha (4th term) in 2009. In the same year, he held different positions which are as follows: 1. Jun. 2009: Member, Panel of Chairmen 2. 6 Aug. 2009 to 30 Apr. 2014: Member, Committee on Public Accounts 3. 31 Aug. 2009: Member, Standing Committee on Finance 4. 23 Sep. 2009: Member, Committee on Government Assurances. He was re-elected to 16th Lok Sabha (5th term). During 2014, he took charge at different positions which are given below: 1. May 2014: Re-elected to 16th Lok Sabha (5th term) 2. 13 Aug. 2014 onwards Deputy Speaker, Lok Sabha 3. 1 Sep. 2014 onwards Special Invitee, Business Advisory Committee 4. 15 Sep. 2014 onwards Chairperson, Committee on Private Members` Bills and Resolutions. Also, he became the Chairperson of the Budget Committee, Lok Sabha, and Committee on Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) 5. From 8 Oct. 2014 onwards he became the Member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Maintenance of Heritage Character and Development of Parliament House Complex. From 29 Jan. 2015 onwards he became the Member of the General Purposes Committee.
