Mulayam Singh Yadav is an Indian politician. He was born on November 22, 1939 (age 82 years), Saifai, India. He is a Member of the Lok Sabha (2014–2019), MORE. He did his study at K.K. College, Etawah, MORE. His father’s name is Late Shri Sughar Singh Yadav and his mother’s name is Smt. Murti Devi. He married Smt. Sadhna Yadav.
Mulayam Singh Yadav successfully contested in the Jaswantnagar constituency assembly election as a BKD candidate where he defeated Vishambhar Singh Yadav by a margin of 14,258 votes in 1974. He again contested from Jaswantnagar constituency in the assembly elections as a JND candidate and emerged victorious by defeating an Independent Gory Lal Shakya and secured a 64.62% vote share in 1977. He was Re-elected in the assembly elections from the Jaswantnagar constituency where he contested as an LKD candidate. He defeated Shivraj Singh Yadav and secured a 57.32% vote share in 1985. He was appointed the Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh in 1989. He was elected again as the MLA of the Jaswantnagar constituency by defeating Darshan Singh Of INC with a 59.26% vote share in 1989. He was Re-elected in the assembly elections where he defeated Darshan Singh for the second time in 1991. He was appointed the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for a second term in 1993. He contested the assembly elections from the Nidhauli Kalan constituency as an SP candidate and defeated BJP's Sudhakar Verma by a margin of 7063 votes in 1993.
He also contested and was elected into the 11th Lok Sabha from the Mainpuri constituency by defeating Updesh Singh Chauhan of BJP by a margin of 51,958 votes in 1996. He was elected to the 12th Lok Sabha elections from the Sambhal constituency where he defeated D.P Yadav by a margin of 1,66,628 votes in 1998. He was appointed the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the third term in 2003. He was elected to 14th Lk Sabha from the Mainpuri constituency where he defeated BSP's Ashok Shakeya by a margin of 3,37,870 votes. He resigned and bye-pols were held in the same year where Dharmendra Yadav of SP emerged victorious in his bid to the seat in 2004. He became a member of the Standing Committee on Labour and Consultative Committee, Ministry of Home Affairs in 2014. On 30 December 2016, Mulayam Singh expelled his son Akhilesh Yadav and his cousin Ram Gopal from Samajwadi Party for six years. Within a day he revoked his decision.
On 1 January 2017, Akhilesh Yadav compelled Mulayam to step down from the post of party president. Mulayam termed the party's convention as illegal. The matter went to Election Commission and EC ruled against Mulayam's order that Ram Gopal had all rights to convene that convention. Finally, Akhilesh became party chief. Mulayam filled his nomination from Mainpuri Lok Sabha Seat, saying that this would be his last election in 2019.
