Meenakshi Lekhi is an Indian politician. She was born on April 30, 1967 (age 54 years), in New Delhi, India. She is a member of the Lok Sabha since 2014. She did his study at the University of Delhi (1987–1990), Faculty of Law, University of Delhi (1987–1990), Hindu College. Her father’s name is Shri Bhagwan Khanna and her mother’s name is Smt. Amarlata Khanna. She married Shri Aman Lekhi.
She registered with Delhi-Bar Council in the year 1990. She started practicing at the Supreme Court of India, Delhi High Court, other Courts, tribunals, and forums in Delhi and other parts of the country and argued a wide variety of matters such as bails, revisions, trials, appeals, criminal writs, Prevention of Corruption Act/Customs Act/FERA prosecutions, domestic violence and Family Law dispute. She has been in the National Commission for Women (NCW)’s special Committee, Chairperson of Special Task Force on Women Empowerment, Vice Chairperson of JPM, Blind School, New Delhi, and Joint Secretary, Blind Relief Association. She was a lawyer for the victim in the Shanti Mukund Hospital rape case and represented media in the Court to get the ban on media coverage of case proceedings in the Nirbhaya rape case revoked and was successful in the effort and also took up the case of permanent commissioning of women officers in the Indian Armed Forces in 2011. After the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case government formed the drafting committee for the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2013. Meenakshi was one of the key members. She had also been a part of drafting Committees for Bills like ‘Women Reservation Bill’ and ‘Problem of Sexual Harassment at Workplace’.
Meenakshi Lekhi was working with Swadeshi Jagran Manch, an organization associated with RSS. During that time she was invited by ex-BJP president Nitin Gadkari to join BJP. Meenakshi accepted the offer and joined Mahila Morcha (women’s wing) of BJP. Soon she became National Vice President, BJP Mahila Morcha in 2010. She got Elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from the New Delhi constituency. She defeated AAP's Ashish Khetan in 2014. On 3 Nov 2017, she became a Member of the Press Council of India. Meenakshi Lekhi was re-elected to Lok Sabha from the New Delhi constituency in 2019. Meenakshi Lekhi was inducted into the Modi cabinet as Minister of State in External Affairs and Culture Ministry in 2021.
