His educational qualification is Inter Mediate, Diploma in Journalism from Talcher College under Utkal University, and Indira Gandhi Open University, Sambalpur. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He married Smt. Nandita Behera on 24 May 1997 and has one son. Mahesh Sahoo started his political career as a Member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly for consecutive four terms (1995-2009 & 2014 – 2019). In 2010, he was appointed as Chairperson of Odisha State Warehouse Corporation (OSWC) and then Chairperson of District Planning Board for 2014-19.
