Madhur Bhandarkar was born on 26th August 1968 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. By profession, he is a Film Director, Screenwriter and Producer. Bhandarkar has made his debut as an Actor with movie Rangeela in 1995. But he always wanted to be a Filmmaker, so he made his debut as Director with movie Trishakti in 1999, his next release Chandni bar in 2001 was a blockbuster hit and for this movie, he also won National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues. Films like Satta, Aan: Men at Work, Page 3, Corporate, Traffic Signal, Fashion, Jail, Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, Heroine, Calendar Girls and Indu Sarkar were the movie which made him an ace filmmaker.
He is famous for making movies on Social issues, the darkness hidden in the Glamorous world, the issues which we ignore, the reality behind the issues. In April 2017, Madhur was invited to represent India at BRICS Film Festival, also he was nominated as society member of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. Bhandarkar has also received Bharat Gaurav award at the UN hall in New York.
Madhur made his television debut with serial Special@10 aired on Sony TV. He has received many prestigious awards like Padma Shri in 2016 by the Government of India, National Film Awards for Best Direction for movie Traffic Signal in 2007, Sophia Awards at Syracuse International Film Festival 2014, Conferred with prestigious British honour- the Creative Spirit and Visionary Director’s Award for 2013-14 at the House of Commons, London, U.K and State of Maharashtra conferred Bhandarkar with the Raj Kapoor Smriti Award for contribution to Indian Cinema.
