M J Akbar is an Indian journalist and politician. His full name is Mobasher Jawed Akbar. He was born on January 11, 1951 (age 70 years), Hooghly, India. He was a Member of the Rajya Sabha (2015–2016). He did his study at Presidency University (1967–1970), University of Calcutta. His father’s name is Shri Sheikh Akbar Ali and his mother’s name is Shrimati Imtiaz Akbar. He married Shrimati Mallika Akbar.
He first contested and won the Ninth Lok Sabha elections from the Kishanganj constituency in Bihar as an INC candidate. He defeated Asrarul Haque by a margin of over 20,000 votes. He lost the 1991 elections. He was an Adviser to, Ministry of Human Resource Development. He took a break from politics and dived back into Journalism in 1991. He was a Member of, Committee on Coal and Steel March in 2015. He was a Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs in 2016. He has been Re-elected to Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh in 2016. He was a Member of, Select Committee of Rajya Sabha on the Enemy Property (Amendment and Validation) Bill in 2016.
