Primarily an Agriculturist, Kaushalendra Kumar is a supporter of agrarian and social reform. He was an active participant in the mass movement for the Broad Gauge rail track and the establishment of a Pan (Betel)Research Centre for the farmers. He also campaigned and fought for the Uderasthan, Punpun-Mohane River Project. He was elected to 15th Lok Sabha from the Nalanda constituency where he defeated Satish Kumar of LJP by a margin of 1,52,677 votes in 2009. He retained his seat in the 16th Lok Sabha election from Nalanda where he defeated Satya Nand Sharma of LJP by a margin of 9627 votes in 2014.
