Keshava Rao is a famous Indian politician of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Journalist, Educationist, Social Worker, and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), the upper house of the Indian Parliament from the state of Telangana. He was born on 4 June 1939 (age 82 years according to 2021) in Mahbubabad, Distt. Warangal (Andhra Pradesh), India. His father’s name is Late Shri K. Niranjan Rao and his mother’s name is Late Shrimati K. Govindamma. His educational qualification is M.A., Ph.D. from Badruka College, Hyderabad Arts College, and Osmania University, Hyderabad. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He is married to Shrimati K. Vasanta Kumari on 24 June 1964 and has four children two sons and two daughters.
Dr. Kancherla Keshava Rao started his career as a journalist and actor-producer. He has been working as a teacher at Mahboob College MP High School for a short time. He has been editor of The Daily News, a popular daily in English, printed from Hyderabad. After that, he joined politics as a candidate of the Indian National Congress and later joined Telangana Rashtra Samithi in 2013. He was first appointed to the Chairman of Minimum Wages Board, Government of Andhra Pradesh for 1972–1979 and first elected to the Member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council for 1979 - 85 (two terms). He has been appointed to the Deputy Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council for 1979–1980 and Cabinet Minister in three consecutive Governments of Andhra Pradesh holding important portfolios like Industries, Education Women Welfare, and Labour, respectively for 1980 - 83.
In 2006, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Telangana, re-elected to Rajya Sabha (second term) in 2014, and re-elected to Rajya Sabha (third term) in 2020. Currently, he is serving as a member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Education and a member of the Press Council of India.
