John Abraham is an Indian film actor, producer and a former model who appears in Hindi films who was born on 17 December 1972. John was born into a family of religious and ethnic heritage. His father, Abraham John, is an architect and a Malayali Christian from Aluva, Kerela, while his mother, Firoza Irani, is a Parsi. He has a younger brother named Alan Abraham. John considers himself a spiritual person but does not follow any particular religion. He grew up in Mumbai and studied at the upmarket Bombay Scottish School in Mahim, Mumbai. He did a bachelor’s degree in economics from Jai Hind College, University of Mumbai, and then he went on to take an MBA from Mumbai Educational Trust.
John started his modelling career appearing in the music video songs of Jazzy B who is a popular Punjabi singer. John also appeared in many commercial advertisements and other music videos for singers including Pankaj Udas, Hans Raj Hans and Babul Supriyo.
In 2003, he made his debut with Jism, which earned him a Filmfare Best Debut Award nomination. In 2004 he followed by his first commercial success, Dhoom. He has received two Filmfare Award nominations for his negative roles in Dhoom and in Zinda in 2006. Later, he appeared in the major critical success Water in 2005. Then, he appeared in many critically and commercially successful films including Garam Masala in 2005, Taxi No. 9211 in 2006. Dostana in 2008, New York in 2009, Force in 2011, Houseful in 2012, Race 2 and Shootout At Wadala in 2013 Welcome Back in 205, Dishoom in 2016, Parmanu: the story of Pokharan and Satyamev Jayate in 2018 thus establishing himself as a commercially successful actor of Hindi cinema. He was nominated for a best Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film Baabul (2006). Abraham started his modelling career appearing in the music video of the song of Punjabi singer Jazzy B. He then joined the media firm Time & Space Entertainment Promotions Ltd., which however closed because of financial problems.
In 2002, during the casting of Jism, Abraham began to date his co-star Bipasha Basu. They were in a relationship until early 2011. While together, the two were often referred to as a super couple in the India media. John is now married to Priya Runchal, an NRI financial analyst and investment banker from the USA. They married on 3 January 2014. John often performed many dangerous stunts in his films. He is also s vegetarian and is a strong advocate for animal rights.
In 2012, John produced his first film “Vicky Donor”, which was a critical and commercial success and earned him a National Film Award for best popular film providing wholesome entertainment. Then, he established his own production house named John Abraham Entertainments. In his acting career, he is the owner of the Indian Super League football team North East United FC. John’s second film as a producer was Madras cafe which garnered critically acclaimed.
