He spearheaded the protest march called Dalit Asmita Yatra from Ahmedabad to Una following the deadly attack on Dalit men in Una village by so-called “Gau Rakshaks.” The march culminated with 20,000 Dalits attending the protest, including a Dalit woman, who vowed to give up jobs of removing cow carcasses. He contested and won the 2017 assembly elections from Vadgam by defeating BJP rival Vijaykumar Chakravarti by a margin of 19,696 votes. He served as a reporter for Abhiyan, a Gujarati magazine (2004-2007).
