Jharna Das is an Indian politician from the Communist Party of India. She was born on October 1, 1962 (age 59 years), in Udaipur, India. She is a Member of the Rajya Sabha since 2010. She did her study at the University of Calcutta. Her father’s name is Late Jatiendra Chandra Das and her mother’s name is Bipula Das. She married Kaushik Baidya.
She was elected as Child Development Project Officer, I.C.D.S, Tripura in 1990. She was also a Member of Dukli Panchayat Samiti in 2002. She served as State Commission for Women Chairperson in 2004. She was a Member of the Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment in 2010. She was elected to Rajya Sabha, Tripura State Social Welfare Board in 2010. She was a Member of the Committee on Official Language in 2012. She was a Member of the House Committee in 2012. She was also a Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Environment and Forests in 2012. She was a Member of the Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes in 2014. On 21 March 2016, Jharna Das Baidya won the biennial Rajya Sabha elections from Tripura by receiving 49 votes and defeating Congress candidate Jyotirmoy Nath, who secured a mere 10 votes. Followed by her win, she is currently serving a second term in Rajyasabha.
