Hishey Lachungpa is a famous Indian politician of the Sikkim Democratic Front, Social Worker, and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), the upper house of the Indian Parliament from the state of Sikkim. He was born on 10 May 1967 (age 54 years according to 2021) in Phaka, Lachung, Distt. North Sikkim (Sikkim), India. His father’s name is Late Shri Tshering Dorjee Lachungpa and his mother’s name is Late Shrimati Phumzay Lachungpa. His educational qualification is Bachelor of Arts from Sikkim Government College, Gangtok, North Bengal University. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He is married to Dr. (Shrimati) Chongtick Lachungpa on 17 March 2001 and has two children one son and one daughter.
Hishey Lachungpa started his political career as a candidate of the Sikkim Democratic Front and was first elected to the Sikkim Legislative Assembly (three terms) for three terms (1994 - 99, 1999-2004, and 2004-2009). In between he was appointed to the Minister of Department of Energy and Power, Government of Sikkim for 1994 – 99, Minister of Department of Power and Labour and Capacity Building, Government of Sikkim for 1999-2004, Minister of Department of Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare and Social Justice and Empowerment and Welfare, Government of Sikkim for 2004-2009 and Political Advisor to the Chief Minister (Cabinet Minister rank), Government of Sikkim for 2009-12.
In 2012, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Sikkim, Re-elected to Rajya Sabha (second term) in 2018. Currently, he is serving as a member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Tribal Affairs since 2019, member of the Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs, and Public Distribution since 2021. He Has also published prayer books in Bhutia, Nepali, and English: (i) Folk Tale of Sikkimese Bhutia, (ii) Excellence Path of Liberation At Sight (Thongdrol Lamzang), (iii) Bhutia Learning Course Book, and (iv) Sikkimese Bhutia Troverg.
