His educational qualification is Bachelor of Arts from St. Xavier's College, University of Mumbai (formerly the University of Bombay), Mumbai. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He is married to Shrimati Priyadarshini Kumari Dungarpur on 20 April 2011 and has four children one son and three daughters.
Harshvardhan Singh Dungarpur started his political career as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was first elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Rajasthan. Currently, he is serving as a member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, a member of the Committee on Water Resources, member of Hindi Salahakar Samiti of the Ministry of Home Affairs, member of National Tiger Conservation Authority.
