Harivansh Narayan Singh is an Indian journalist and politician. He was born on June 30, 1956 (age 65 years), in Ballia, India. He is a Member of the Rajya Sabha since 2014. He did his study at Banaras Hindu University (1977), MORE. His father’s name is Late Shri Banke Bihari Singh and his mother’s name is Devjani Devi. He married Asha Singh. In 1977, he joined the Times Of India as a trainee journalist. Later, he shifted to Mumbai and started working with the famous magazine, ‘Dharmyug magazine’ till 1981. He joined the Bank Of India and worked there from 1981-1984. He worked as an assistant editor with Amrit Bazar Patrika’s magazine ‘Ravivar’ till 1989. In 2014, he was nominated for the Rajya Sabha by Nitish Kumar’s JDU. It is said that before being picked for the Rajya Sabha, he was even a primary member of the JDU party. After being elected to the Rajya sabha, he adopted Bahuaara village in Rohtas. He is the first MP from the Janata Dal Party, who has been elected to the post of Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. On 9 August 2018, he became the deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha; defeating B.K. Hari prasad of the congress Party. Harivansh got a total of 125 votes whereas Hariprasad secured 105.
