He was born on 12 February 1963 (age 58 years according to 2021) in Mirle, Mysuru District, Karnataka, India. His father’s name is Shri Gangur Cheluve Gowda and his mother’s name is Shrimati Jayamma. His educational qualification is M.A. (Public Administration) from Periyar University, Salem. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He is married to Dr. Sudha Chandrashekar on 21 June 1999 and has two children one son and one daughter.
G. C. Chandrashekhar started his political career as a candidate for Indian National Congress in 2003. He was first appointed as the spokesperson for the party. He has been served as a General Secretary and spokesperson for the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and also Chairman of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan for 2003–2004, Chairman of Karnataka Urban Water Supply Board for 2014–2016, General Secretary of Indian National Congress for 2010–2014, and much more, In 2018, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Karnataka and now serving as a member of Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers, member of Consultative Committee for the Ministry of External Affairs since 2019 and member of House Committee since 2021.
