Elections are the foremost part of our democratic India. People have right to elect their chief minister with their votes. Nagaland is the smallest state in North East India and has a large population which is mainly Christians. It is through election only that people show their powers that they have right to elect the person of their choice as in who can govern them and work their welfare and upliftment. The government of Nagaland is also known as State Government of Nagaland. It has around 11 districts. It comprises of legislative, executive and Judiciary Branch. Like all the other states the head of the state of Governor, who is appointed by President of India with the advice of the Central government. However, all the executive power is in the hands of the chief minister and he is solely responsible for taking all the major decisions and has to take care for the normal functioning of the state. The capital of Nagaland is Kohima and is home to Vidhan Sabha and secretariat. All the cases regarding the state of Nagaland are done is Court of Guwahati which has Kohima Jurisdiction bench. The current Legislative Assembly of Nagaland is unicameral, comprising of 60 Member of the Legislative Assembly (M.L.A). The normal term of the government is 5 years unless it is dissolved early. The chief minister of Nagaland, T.R. Zeliang, who has held the ministerial positions since 2014. He belongs to Nagaland People’s Front Party. He came into position after Neiphiu, the then chief minister of Nagaland shifted his focus to mainstream politics in Delhi. Zeliang has also held office as Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha for Nagaland.
