Mizoram is one of the states of Northeast India and has Aizawl as its capital city. It is present on the southernmost tip of the east and is bordered with seven sisters and also shares the international border with Bangladesh and Myanmar. It was earlier part of Assam until 1972 when it became the 23rd state of India. It is the 2nd least populous state of the country and has the highest literacy rate. It is basically based on agriculture for its livelihood. Like all the other states, elections are held in this union territory to elect its leaders. It has the highest number of tribes in the country who are protected under the Indian Constitution of the scheduled tribe. The Government of Mizoram is also known as State Government and is home to 8 districts. Like all the states, it headed by the Governor whose position is only ceremonial and is appointed by the President on the advice of Central Government. The executive powers are vested in the hands of Chief Minister who is elected by the people through elections. There is judiciary, legislative and executive branch of the state as well. Mizoram Legislative Assembly and the Secretariat are present in Aizawl. All the cases regarding the state of Mizoram are held in Guwahati High Court. The chief minister of Mizoram, Lal Thanhawla (born 19 May 1942) has been in power since 11 December 2008. He has been elected as a Chief Minister for more than 5 times making him a successful leader of all time. He belongs to Indian National Congress party. The general term of the party is 5 years unless resolved early.
