Meghalaya is a state in northeast India. The name of the state derived from Sanskrit means’’ the abode of clouds”. It is the greenest state in the country with more than 70% land covered with forests. It was an earlier art of Assam but was separated in 1972. The official language is English which is spoken very commonly in the state. In the state, the youngest daughter inherits all the wealth and also takes care of her parents. It is a very much agrarian state where various types of crops are grown. These include potatoes, rice, maize, pineapples, bananas, papayas, spices. The Government of Meghalaya is the highest authority which governs the state of Meghalaya. It comprises of 11 districts. It also has executive which is carried on by Governor of Meghalaya together with the judiciary and legislative branch. Like all the state, the Governor is head of the state, however, his or her post is completely ceremonial. The head of the government is chief minister. The capital of the state is Shillong and consists of Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) and the Secretariat. The legislative assembly is unicameral and has 60 MLA. The term of government is for 5 years. The 11th chief minister of Meghalaya is Dr. Mukul M. Sangma. He is an Indian politician born on 20 April 1965. He belongs to National Congress Party. He has done his graduation in medicine from Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal. He came into active politics in 1993 and since then there has been no looking back for him.
