Chadalavada Anandha Sundhararaman Bhavani Devi, simply known as Bhavani Devi, is an Indian saber fencer. She was born on August 27, 1993 (age 28 years), in Chennai, India. She did her study Muruga Dhanushkodi Girls Higher Secondary, Chennai, and St.Joseph’s Engineering College in Chennai. Her father’s name is Anandha Sundharam and her mother’s name is C Sundhararaman Ramani. Her brother’s name is Suresh Kumar, and her sister’s name is Renuka. Her height is 163cm, 1.63m, 5feet 4inches, and her weight is 60kg, and in pounds 132lbs. Bhavani’s hair color is black and her eye color is black.
After finishing class X, she joined the Sports Authority of India Centre in Thalassery, Kerala. At the age of 15, she appeared in her first international tournament Cadet and Junior World Fencing Championship at Turkey in 2007. The expenses of traveling and buying the equipment for fencing were not easy for Bhavani's family. Her mother had to borrow money from friends and family to meet with the expenses. Commencing from the Bronze Medal for saber at 2009 Common Wealth Championship held in Malaysia, Bhavani has bagged many laurels including Bronze in 2010 International Open held in Thailand, Bronze in 2010 Cadet Asian Championship held in the Philippines, Bronze in the 2010 Asian Championship held at the Philippines
Silver and Bronze in 2012 Common Wealth Championship held in Jersey. She bagged Silver Medal in the 2014 Asian Championship held in the Philippines under-23 category becoming the first Indian to do so. She won the Bronze in the 2015 Under-23 Asian Championship held at Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar and the 2015 Flemish Open held in Belgium. For the astonishing performance at Flemish Open, former Tamilnadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa honored Bhavani Devi with a purse of Rs 3 Lakh. She became the first Indian fencer to win gold at a World Cup event when she triumphed in individual saber at the event at Reykjavik, Iceland in 2017. In 2019 she won a silver and bronze in the women's saber individual category in the Tournoi Satellite Fencing Competition held in Belgium and Iceland. Bhavani has received three Gold Medals to date.
