Binoy Viswam is a famous Indian politician of the Communist Party of India, Writer, Editor, Trade Unionist, Lawyer, Social Worker, and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), the upper house of the Indian Parliament from the state of Kerala. He was born on 25 November 1955 (age 66 years according to 2021) in Vaikom, Distt. Kottayam (Kerala), India. His father’s name is Shri C.K. Viswanathan (was a leader of the Communist Party of India) and his mother’s name is Shrimati C.K. Omana. His educational qualification is B.A., L.L.B. from Maharajas College, Ernakulam and Law Academy, Law College, Trivandrum. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He is married to Shrimati Shyla C. George on 10 October 1981 and has two daughters named Rasmi & Surya.
Binoy Viswam started his political career in his student days as he first joined the All India Students Federation (AISF), as Unit Secretary of AISF in Vaikom Government Boys High School. He was first elected to the Member of Legislative Assembly, Kerala from Nadapuram constituency for two terms (2001–2011). In between, he was appointed to the Minister for Forests and Housing, Government of Kerala for 2006-11. In 2018, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Kerala and serving as a member of the Committee on Railways also the Leader of the Communist Party of India in the Rajya Sabha since 2019.
He has also been Received several prizes in Elocution and Essay writing in University Youth Festivals and intercollegiate debates and won the 'Ambassador of Friendship Among World Youth' Award instituted by the Young Communist League of Soviet Union, also received 'Banner of Youth Unity' and Diploma awarded by World Federation of Democratic Youth.
