Benny Behanan is a famous Indian politician of the Indian National Congress party, Social Worker, Agriculturist, Trade Unionist, and the Member of Parliament of India from Chalakudy (Lok Sabha constituency). He was born on 22 August 1952 (age 69 years according to 2021) in Vengola, Ernakulam, Kerala, India. His father’s name is Shri Ulahanan Thomas and his mother’s name is Smt. Chinnamma Thomas. His educational qualification is B.Com. from Sri Sankara College, Kalady, Ernakulam, Kerala. His Nationality belongs to Indian. He married Sherly Benny on 09 Jan 1983 and was blessed with two children 1 son and 1 daughter. He loves to do Reading, watch movies, listening to music in his free time. He had also published a book named “Demonetisation: Sanghaditha Kuttam Niyamanusrutha Kolla”.
Benny Behanan started his career as a State President of the Kerala Students Union (KSU) from 1978–1979. After that, he was appointed as a General Secretary of Kerala Pradesh Youth Congress Committee for 17 years (1979–1982). Benny served as the MLA of Pirovam Constituency in Kerala in 1982 and Thrikkakara in 2011. He is a member of KPCC Executive Since 1981. In 1982, he was elected to the Kerala State Legislative Assembly. He has been a member of the District Council from 1991-1993. He is a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) since 1996. He was appointed as a Managing Director of Veekshanam Daily Newspaper since 2006 and President of Thrissur District Congress Committee since 2010. In 2019, he was elected into the 17th Lok Sabha from Chalakudy where he defeated the CPI candidate by a margin of over one lakh votes. He is also President of Kerala State Skating Association and has been a College team football player. He did some extra Social and Cultural Activities as well as is Working for the differently-abled persons and weaker section through Santhwanam: A relief scheme in association with various hospitals; Conduct and promote various literary and educational activities. Currently, he is a member of the Joint Committee on Offices of Profit, a member of the Standing Committee on Urban Development, and a member of the Consultative Committee of, Ministry of Culture and Tourism since 2019.
