Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU) is a university in India. The university is located in Shibpur, Howrah, West Bengal. The Bengal Engineering and Science University is also known as BESU. The University is the second oldest engineering institution in India. The university was established in 1856. The motto of Bengal Engineering and Science University is “uttisthita j?grata pr?pya var?n nibidhata”. In India, the university is quite famed and across the border the university is known for its inheritance and eminence in teaching. BESU is popular for its research in engineering and applied sciences. In 2005, the university (BESU) was ranked 10th position nationally in the top engineering institution in India. The university is accredited by AICTE and NBA. The Chancellor of BESU is Sh. Mayankote Kelath Narayanan who is also the honorable Governor of West Bengal. The Vice-Chancellor of BESU is Ajoy Kumar Ray.
Bengal Engineering and Science University offers undergraduates, postgraduates, Ph.D, C.E.P. (Continuing Education Programme) and Q.I.P. (Quality Improvement Programme). Some of the programs offered by the university are Bachelor of Engineering (in various streams), Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Engineering (in various streams), M.Sc., MBA, Master of Architecture and Ph.D (in various streams). The facilities which are being provided by the university to the students are Library, Canteen, Computer Lab, Internet Service, Sports Facility, Institutional Hall, Hostel Facility etc.
