Anjali Bhagwat is a famous Indian 10m air rifle shooter. Her full name is Anjali Ramakanta Vedpathak Bhagwat. She was born on 5 December 1969 (age 52 years according to 2021) in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and belongs to a Marathi family. Her mother worked for All India Radio. Anjali has an elder sister and a younger brother. Her sister is also a sports enthusiast. Her height is 163cm, 1.63m, 5 feet, and 4 inches. Her religion belongs to is Hinduism and nationality, Indian. Her hair color is black and her eye color is also black. She completes her studies at the Kirti College, Mumbai Her coach’s name is Sanjay Chakraborty. Anjali married Mandar Bhagwat in December 2000. Anjali Bhagwat started her shooting journey in her college life as she joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC) where she brushed up her shooting skills. She also practiced Judo Karate and Mountaineering and was a big enthusiast of tennis and cricket. Later on, she had the opportunity to join Maharashtra Rifle Association (MRA) where she showed her gifted skills for shooting. She first started shooting when she was 21. She won her first medal at the SAF Games where she bagged a gold and bronze with the national team and an individual silver medal in Sports 3P. She got into Maharashtra Rifle Association and within just seven days won her first medal. It was a silver medal that she got in the 1988 National Championships. Anjali became only the second Indian woman to reach the Olympics finals in 2000. She has represented the country at three Olympic Games.
In 2002, she became the champion of the champions and world number one shooter in the 10m air rifle event. Anjali is the sole Indian to win the ISSF Champion of Champions award. She came into the limelight when she was selected for the Commonwealth Games 2002 where she continuously won 4 gold medals. Bhagwat won the ISSF Champion of Champions award and is the only Indian to win the ISSF Champions' Trophy in Air Rifle Men & Women mixed event at Munich in 2002 and gold at the Milan World Cup in 2003 with a score of 399/400.
In the 2003 Afro-Asian Games, Bhagwat created history by becoming the first Indian woman shooter to get gold and a silver medal in the Sports 3P and Air Rifle events respectively. In the year 2005, she was part of the Commonwealth Championships which was held in Melbourne, and won 2 gold medals and 1 silver. She has been part of the silver medal-winning Indian team at Commonwealth Games 2006 held in Melbourne at 3P Team and won bronze at air rifle in Europe Circuit 2007 held in Hungary. She was also honored with the “Young Achiever Award” by the Indo-American Society in 2002. For her exemplary efforts in sports, the Government of India bestowed her with the Arjuna Award in 2000 and with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2003. In 2005, she contributed her best as a member of the national squad. Her domestic medal record of 55 gold, 35 silver, and 16 bronze medals is still intact. She has set 13 new records in international competitions and has won 55 Gold, 35 Silver, and 16 Bronze medals, with 8 new records in national competitions in India.
