Amit Rohidas is an Indian field hockey player. He was born on 10th May 1993 in Saunamara village of Sundergarh district, State-Odisha, India in an economically challenged scheduled caste family. His height is 5 feet and 10 inches. He is the 12th pass. His father is Gopal Rohidas and his mother is Gulapi Rohidas. He has one elder brother Three Sisters marital status is unmarried.
He developed a keen interest in hockey when he was 10 years old. He soon started playing in his village, Saunamara in the Sundergarh district. He later joined the Panposh Sports Hostel in Rourkela to hone his hockey skills. He is passionate about hockey since childhood. Therefore, he wants to make his career in sports. Hockey was hardly popular among the SC, unlike in ST households. But Rohidas got hooked to the game watching Tirkey’s exploits. Dilip sir has proved to be a great guiding force for him. He is a great motivation for kids of Sundargarh district or rather he should say for the entire Odisha. His coach is Bijay Lakra, Kalu Charan Choudhary and A K Bansal. He participates in many national and international matches. He represented Birsa Munda Vidyapitha in the Nehru cup hockey tournament twice in 2007 and 2008. He was selected in the senior squad for the 2013 Asia Cup in Ipoh where the Indian team won the silver medal. He was a member of the railway team that emerged champions in the 6th Hockey Indian senior men national championship held in Saifai, Uttar Pradesh from April 20 to May 1, 2016.
Rohidas cemented his place in the senior national team after impressing with his defensive duties in the 2017 Hockey India League. He was the vice-captain of the junior national team for the 2013 men's World Cup in New Delhi. He made a comeback to the Indian side in 2017. Kalinga Lancers team that emerged champions in the 5th hockey Indian league held from Jan 21 to Feb 26, 2017. He got a chance to feature in the Hockey India League, alongside legendary players like Moritz Fuertes, Ashley Jackson, and Austin Smith. He was also a part of India’s silver medal-winning squad in the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia.
He was a part of the Indian men team that won the 4- match practice series 2-1 against Argentina, held in canard Buenos aires from 6 -14 April 2021 and he was a part of the Indian men team that both of the FIH Pro League matches against Argentina, held in canard Buenos aires 11 and 12 April 2021. He has many awards and achievements outstanding sportspersons and sports legends of the state with OSJA Annual Awards since 2017and OSJA Sportsperson of the Year Award and OSJA Lifetime Achievement Award respectively for the year 2018.
