Ambika Soni is an Indian politician belonging to Indian National Congress. She was born on November 13, 1942 (age 79 years), in Lahore, Pakistan. She is a Member of the Rajya Sabha since 2004. She did her study at University of Delhi, Universidad de la Habana, MORE. Her father’s name is Late Nakul Sen and her mother’s name is Late Indu Nakul Sen. She married Uday Chand Soni.
She started her political career as a volunteer at the Congress party in 1969. She was appointed as the General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress in 1972. Ambika became the President of the Indian Youth Congress. in November 1975. As a first-time MP, Ambika Soni entered the Rajya Sabha and she keep representing the Congress party in the upper house of Indian parliament many times ever since 1976. She became the president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. She also worked as the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee from 1999-2006. Ambika Soni got appointed as the President of the All India Mahila Congress in 1998. She was made a member of the Committee on Defence and a member of the Committee on Home Affairs in 2000. Ambika Soni was appointed as the Minister of Tourism and Minister of Culture in the UPA-1 government led by Dr. Manmohan Singh in 2006. She was appointed as the Minister of Information and Broadcast in the Government of India and remained in office until 2012. She contested the Lok Sabha election as a Congress candidate from the Anandpur Sahib constituency in the state of Punjab but couldn't pull a victory in 2014. Ambika Sonia was again elected to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab in 2017.
