He was born on 26 May 1953 (age 68 years according to 2021) in Boparai Kalan, Ludhiana, Punjab, India. His father’s name is Late Shri Malkiat Singh and his mother’s name is Late Smt. Gurdev Kaur. His educational qualification is M.A. Economics, MBBS from Barkhatullah University and Amritsar Medical College, Punjab. His religion belongs to Sikhism and Nationality, India. He married Smt. Kuldeep Kaur on 19 May 1983 and has two sons. He loves reading and watching sports, especially Tennis, Yoga, meditation, creation of core infrastructure in education and health.
Dr. Amar Singh started his career as a District Collector of Government of Madhya Pradesh from 1987 – to 1992. After that he was appointed to the Principal Secretary/Secretary of Government of Madhya Pradesh for 1997 – 2004, Joint Secretary of Government of India for 2004 – 2010, Executive Director of Food Corporation of India for 2010 – 2012, and C.M.D. of Food Corporation of India. Currently, he is serving as a Vice-President, PCC of Punjab since 2014, Spokesperson of PCC, Punjab since 2017, and Member of All India Congress Committee since 2018. He has also been worked in the position of IAS officer. In May 2019, he was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha representing Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab) with which he was made a member of Standing Committee on Commerce, member of Standing Committee on Railways, member of Consultative Committee, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He is the owner of the Sidhu Hospitals Group – an Indian Private Hospitals chain.
