Ajay Thakur is an Indian professional Kabaddi player and the former captain of the India national kabaddi team. He is also known as Ice Man, King of kabaddi. He was born on 1 May 1986 (age 35 according to 2021) in Dabhota village of Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh, India. His father’s name is Chottu Ram (former Kabaddi player and coach) and his mother’s name is Rajinder Kaur (a housewife). His religion belongs to is Hinduism and nationality, Indian. His height is 185cm, 1.85m, 6 feet, and 1 inch and his weight is 76kg, in pounds 168 lbs. His educational qualification is graduation in Bachelor in Arts from a Government Post Graduate College, Nalagarh. His coach’s name is Baskaran Kasinathan, Balwan Singh. On 10th April 2019, he married Sandeep Rana.
He started playing Kabaddi at an early age as he plated Asian Indoor Games 2007 Incheon in which he won gold after that he played at Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games 2013 Incheon and won gold. He made his wonderful debut in India national kabaddi team at Asian Games 2014 Incheon and won a Gold medal. He is the part of the Pro Kabaddi League since its 1st season with three teams namely Bengaluru Bulls (season 1, 2), Puneri Paltan (season 3, 4), and Tamil Thalaivas (season 5, 6, 7).
Thakur has been part of many International tournaments like the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup, Ahmadabad in which the Indian team won Gold, he was captain of the Indian Team that won gold in the Asian Kabaddi Championship 2017, gold at 2018 Dubai Kabaddi Masters, Dubai, and bronze at Asian Games 2018 Jakarta. He has also been honored with many awards like the Himachal Gorav Award 2017, the ParshuRam Award, the Padma Shri award, and Arjuna Award in 2019. He is currently worked as Deputy Superintendent of Police at Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh.
