Shabana Azmi is a respected and well renowned Indian Film, Theater, and Television Actress. She is born on 18th September 1950 in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. She is the daughter of famous poet Kaifi Azmi and Shaukat Kaifi and has a brother Baba Azmi (cinematographer) and Sister-in-law Tanvi Azmi (Bollywood Actress).
She went to Queen Mary’s School, Mumbai to complete her basic education and later did her graduation in Psychology from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. She is an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.
Shabana was earlier engaged to Benjamin Gilani in the late 1970s, but due to some reasons, the engagement was called off, and later she got married to a popular poet, scriptwriter, and lyricist Javed Akhtar. It was his second marriage and Shabana’s family was against it. She is the stepmother of Farhan Akhtar (Bollywood Actor) and Zoya Akhtar (Filmmaker).
Azmi made her debut with critically acclaimed movie Ankur in 1974, and for the movie, she won National Award for Best Actress. She has a very successful career and till now new actresses take inspiration from her. She is an icon of eternal beauty and talent. She was last seen in the movie The Black Prince.
She has been an active social activist who raised her voice for child survival and people fighting AIDS and facing any injustice. For her work, she has been honored Padma Shri.
