He was born on 12 January 1938 (age 83 years according to 2021) in Sah Jalapur, Malda, West Bengal, India. His father’s name is Late Shri Abu Hyat Khan Chowdhury and his mother’s name is Late Smt. Saleha Khatoon. His educational qualification is Graduate (Degree in Industrial Psychology) from Northampton College of Technology, England, and the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. His Nationality belongs to Indian. He married Ruth Khan Choudhury and has one son named Isha Khan Choudhury. He has been widely traveled to Canada, Bangladesh, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, the U.K., and the U.S.A. He loves to read books on social psychology and Sufism.
Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury started his political career when he joined Indian National Congress and became a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly for two terms (1996-2006). He was also made a member of the Subject Committee of Environment and Co-operation, Govt. of West Bengal in 1996. In 2001, he was appointed as a Deputy Leader of Opposition, West Bengal Legislative Assembly. After that in 2006, he was elected to the 14th Lok Sabha in bye-election from Malda Constituency due to which he became a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), a member of the Consultative Committee of Ministry of Urban Development, executive Member of the Pradesh Congress Committee, West Bengal. In 2008, he was appointed as District President of Malda District Congress Committee and re-elected to 15th Lok Sabha (2nd term), 16th Lok Sabha (3rd term), 17th Lok Sabha (4th term). He has been Union Minister of State, Health and Family Welfare for 2012-14. He is also part of Social and Cultural Activities as well as he is solving the problem of drinking water and getting people arsenic-free water, providing assistance to people suffering from tuberculosis through an NGO called North Bengal Welfare, and many more.
