Abhishek Singhvi was born on 24 February 1959 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan India. By profession, he is a Senior Advocate and a Politician in Congress Party. His father was a Jurist, Writer and Diplomat Laxmi Mall Singhvi and his mother was a Writer Kamla Singhvi. He attended St. Columba School Delhi for basic education. He is graduate in B.A. (HONS.), M.A., PhD and PIL from St. Stephen’s College, Trinity College, Cambridge and Harvard University respectively. He completed his PhD under the surveillance of Sir William Wade. He is married to Anita Singhvi(famous Sufi singer), the couple has two sons.
At the age of 37, he became the youngest Additional Solicitor General of India, in 1997. In 2001 he became the National Spokesperson in India National Congress. He directly Elected to Rajya Sabha in April 2006. From August 2006 to August 2007 he was the Member of Joint committee on Offices of Profit Member, Joint Committee to Examine the Constitutional and Legal Position Relating to Office of Profit Member and he was also appointed as a Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Urban Development. From September 2006 to September 2010 he was the Member in Committee Of Privileges.
From July 2011 onwards he is the Chairman Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice Member General Purposes Committee. He got in a very famous controversy where Abhishek Singhvi was seen with another in a compromising position, the tape was leaked but in his defence, he said that he didn’t do anything wrong. One more famous controversy related to Singhvi is that he was fined 57 crores (INR) by Income Tax Department for misplacing documents related to his office expenditure.
