He was born on 12 January 1960 (age 61 years according to 2021) in Nagarkot, Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, India. His father’s name is Shri C. Arunachalam and his mother’s name is Smt. C. Saraswathy. His educational qualification is M.B.B.S. from Tirunelveli Medical College, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. His religion belongs to Hinduism and Nationality, Indian. He married Rajkumari Devikadevi on 24 Oct 1996 and has two children one son and one daughter. He has been visited Malaysia, Singapore.
Dr. A. Chellakumar first joined Indian National Congress (INC). He started his political career when he was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from Anna Nagar constituency in 1991. After that, he joined Tamil Manila Congress (Moopanar) (TMC) and was re-elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from the T. Nagar constituency in 1996. He was also one of three people appointed as a secretary to the Tamil Nadu All India Congress Committee in 2013. Then he returned to Indian National Congress (INC) and contested the Krishnagiri Lok Sabha constituency for the 16th Lok Sabha in 2014 but did not win that election. He contested again from the Krishnagiri constituency and was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha and became a member of the Standing Committee on Energy, Committee on Papers Laid on the Table, and Consultative Committee of Ministry of Railways. He has also been President of Tamil Nadu Students Congress and Tamil Nadu Youth Congress or Secretary of All India Congress Committee.
