Vikas Gowda is a top Indian Discus thrower and Shot putter born on 5th July 1983 in Mysore and brought up in Frederick, Maryland in the United States of America. He did his graduation from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and in 2006, he was the National Champion in the Discus in US NCAA. His father too was a sportsperson who coached the 1988 Indian Olympic Track Team. In 2012 at Oklahoma he made Indian national record in discus throw, with a throw of 66.28 meters which was also his best personal throw. In the shot put his personal record stands at 19.62 meters. He has contested in Olympic Games four times. He failed to reach the finals after finishing 22nd in the qualifying round, with a throw of 60.69 meters in Beijing Olympics 2008.In 2012 London Olympics, Vikas Gowda qualified for the finals, at the fifth place, with a throw of 65.20 meters and finished 8th in the finals.
