She was born in Belagavi, Karnataka. She belongs to the Saurashtrian (Gujarati) family from the Kutchi community. She made her first film at the age of seventeen. Her first film was in Tamil named Karka Kasadara (2005). Later she played a short role in the film Valmiki directed by R.V. Udayakumar. The director was impressed with her performance. After that, she played a role in a number of Tamil films including Kundakka Mandakka in 2005 alongside R. Parthiban, Dharmapuri in 2006 and the romance film Nenjai Thodu in 2007. In the year 2008, she started working in more Tamil films like Velli Thirai and the action thriller film Dhaam Dhoom which was directed by Jeeva. She received positive reviews for her role in the film. In the same year, she won her first Filmfare Award and the nomination for the Best Supporting Actress. In 2007, she made her first Malayalam film Rock & Roll alongside Mohanlal. Later she appeared in several Malayalam films including Annan Thambi, 2 Harihar Nagar in 2009, Chattambinadu in 2009 and Evidam Swargamanu in 2009. Then she appeared in three Tamil films Muthirai, Vaamanan and Naan Avanillai in 2009. In the year 2011, she released her film Christian Brothers which gained a huge success at the box office. Later she worked in two Tamil films Kanchana and Venkat Prabhu. Then she signed for the remake of Kannada. In 2013, she did her first item number in Telugu film Balupu. In 2015, she appeared in three Malayalam films. After that, she did her second item number in the Telugu film Sardaar Gabbar Singh. Later she appeared for the short role in Hindi film Akira. She made her Hindi debut film Julie 2 in 2016. In May 2016, she did her third item number in Motta Shiva Ketta Shiva and signed for her fourth item number in October 2016 for the film Khiladi no. 150.
