The governor of Maharashtra can also report to the President of India in case the working of the state is not carried in accordance with the constitution. The first governor of Maharashtra after the independence of India was Raja Sir Maharaj Singh who took office in 1948 and left office in 1952. He became the governor of Maharashtra at the age of 70. Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao is the 22nd governor of Maharashtra who resumed office on 30th august 2014. He is the member of BJP. Under Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government, he was the union minister of state for Home Affairs. Along with Maharashtra Rao holds additional charge as Tamil Nadu’s government.
