Chandra Singh Rahi was born in 1942 in Ekeshwar block of Pauri district. He learned singing from his father, who was a Jagar singer. He started his career by working for All India Radio from Najibabad station where he used to sing songs in his melodious voice. Some of his popular songs at that time which was popular among masses were Dekh Hilma Chandi Ku Batana, Mere Manma Tumhari Ratna, Soli Ghura Ghur and many more. Rahi has credited more than 2500 folk songs and was an avid collector of folk musical instruments of Uttarakhand. He was living in a rented apartment in Shakarpur, Delhi with his wife and 4 sons and one daughter. Unfortunately, he died on 10th January 2016 at Sri Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi. He lent his voice for more than 500 songs of Garhwali and Kumaoni languages. Some of his famous songs are Jaagar, Pawna Tu Delhi Chal, Pyari Chumma Bo, Chakkar Ch Sab Roti Koo, Apna Meri Chhapna, Ae Ge Basant, Hey Ji Soona Vaid Ji, Danda Ki Udila, Madhuli Hira Heer, Naach Meri Chhad Chhadi Baand, Kani Holi Karav Holi, Batu Hamte Ken Baton, Santa Subedani Bau Hey, Tipda Ani Loti, Gichi Labaal Khabbaal and Rukhi Hawa Sukhi Dandiyo.
