Conjeevaram Natarajan Annadurai was an Indian Politician. Born on 15 September 1909 in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu in a lower-middle-class family. His father Nataraja Mudaliar was a weaver and mother Ammal was a temple servant, his parents had an inter-caste marriage. He married his wife Rani at the age of 21 years while he was still a student. They were not able to have any child so they adopted the child of his sister, Rajamai’s grandchildren, Rajamai raised Annadurai, did schooling from Pachaiyappa’s High School, but didn’t completed his studies as he got the job of clerk in town. Graduated in 1934, from Pachaiyappa’s College in Chennai in B.A. Degree. And did masters in Economics and Politics from the same college. Used to work as an English Teacher but left his job as his interest was in Journalism. Popularly known as Anna was the 1st Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 1967 and until 1969 served as the last Chief Minister of Madras. He protested several times against the Congress government which led him to go to jail many times. The last time he protested was in 1965 against Madras anti- Hindu agitation, this gave his party support of many popular people. However on 3 February, 1969, he died of cancer. His funeral was mentioned in Guinness record for having the highest attendance of any person to that date, there were 15 million people who attended his funeral. In memory of him, many institutions and organizations are named after him. Annadurai went to New York on 10 September 1968 for some medical treatment. There at Memorial Sloam – Kettering Cancer Center, he was operated for Cancer, and came back in November and continued his work. He got cancer because of his bad habit of chewing tobacco. He used to write stories and dialogues for movies, many of his movies such as in 1949 with movies Nallathambi, Velaikaari, then in 1951 with movie Or Iravu, then in 1954 with Sorgavasal, then in 1956 with Rangoon Radha, then in 1959 with Thaai Magalukku Kattiya Thaali and Edhayum Thangum Idhayam, then in 1961 with Nallavan Vazhvaan, then in 1970 with Kadhai Jothi, then in 1978 with Vandikaaran Magan.
